(5 out of 5) Great Value in a throw down
by from Fort Lauderdale, FL, FL on

I needed a value-based, high-capacity auto pistol for my vehicle's gun safe. I had an opportunity to purchase an SCCY CPX-2 9mm from Sportsman's Outdoor for an incredibly low price. I did some research from a variety of sources, was informed of critical upgrades, and made the purchase. Right out of the box, in stock configuration, this firearm functioned flawlessly using a variety of ammo. Based on recommendations, I installed an MCarbo Stainless Steel Extra Power Recoil Spring. I'm pleased to report that I've had no failures after running several thousand rounds through this pistol.

(5 out of 5) Didnt expect much, pleasantly surprised
by from Marco Island, FL on

I wanted a low cost firearm to keep in the covert gun safe at my vacation home. I saw the SCCY CPX-2 being offered at a very reasonable price. Despite mixed reviews, I purchased this firearm and like other cheapo heaters, figured in having to do some trigger and action upgrades. Upon delivery, I took the CPX-2 to the range and ran 500 rounds of a variety of 9mm ammo through the firearm. I'm pleased to report that the pistol performed flawlessly. In addition, groups were tight, especially after tweaking the adjustable rear sight the front sight is fixed. Trigger response exceeded expectations.

(5 out of 5) A 4-star that became a 5-star

I bought this identical gun last month. Due to mixed reviews, I kept meticulous records of testing: 115 and 124 gr, FMJ and JHP, 558 total rounds, 6 different brands, through 3 mags took advantage of the free one....still available until March 31st. I had 7 FTL Failure To Load, which is still a 98.75% reliability, but not good enough for me. I returned the gun to SCCY, using a pre-paid label they provided. It spent 24 hours in their servicing dept, and was promptly returned to me. They put new less strong springs in the mags, along with what looked like new followers. Back to the range yesterday, and 200 more rounds went through, with zero problems. I'm convinced that SCCY has found the FTL issue, and am quite comfortable carrying this gun every day.
Aesthetics: This is a backup to my S&W M&P 9c, and while more compact than the 9c, the grip is the same width, and same depth in my hand. However, the grip is not as tall, and conceals just a little better. While not quite a pocket pistol that's for my M&P Bodyguard, it disappears into my 4 o'clock position, and is a full inch shorter overall length than the 9c. Trigger: Be aware that this is a double-action-only trigger. Shooting it is identical to shooting a revolver. Yes, the trigger pull is long, and yes, it is a heavier pull than the typical striker-fired pistol. To reset the trigger, it has to go back to its original position after each firing. Each trigger stroke will be the same, and the trigger on the SCCY is quite smooth, not gritty, or grabby. That is part of the built-in safety of a concealed carry weapon, but it does take a little practice to get used to it. It's not a mistake. It's not something that SCCY did as am error in design. It is the design. If you are looking for a built-in safety lever, look at the CPX-1. That is the only difference between the two. Inexpensive is normally associated with cheap. This is an inexpensive gun, but it is not cheaply made. It is solid, feels very much like a larger gun, has good fit and finish, and should serve well as a backup, or even as your primary self-defense weapon.
Just be aware that this is not a range gun, where you are likely to create 1 groupings from 75 feet away. This is a self-defense weapon, where the threat is very likely to be well within 20, if you are forced to use it. You should probably train that way. With just a little practice, it will perform very well in that range. Top it off with awesome, and lifetime warranty service, that follows the gun, and you have a package that is worth considering. I'm very happy with mine. Love the look and feel of it, and I would buy this again.

After getting used to the long trigger pull, this gun has actually become one of my CHL carries. Love the fact that it light weight and the 10 round mags are definitely a plus. I would absolutely recommend this firearm.
