This is my third purchase from SOSS. I can honestly say without any doubt you can't beat this company. The service they provide is second to none. I ordered my gun on the afternoon of Jan 14th and I collected it from my local dealer 3 days later. Very smooth and easy transaction.
The gun is superb as you would expect from Smith & Wesson, it feels good in your hand and looks great. Many thanks to the staff at SOSS. I will making more purchases in the future.
Trigger pull too strong..I will have to send it to a pro-shop to have the trigger reworked.
The 4 inch 586 was one of the finest duty pistols, ever issued, and it is still able to hold its own. I have a very expensive shoulder rig that will hold the 10, 14, 19, 66, 586, 686 in 4-6 inch barrel sizes. The MIM parts, and the finish on this variant are not as nice as the older guns, but you do get the warranty with a new gun. Accuracy is excellent. Shooting one of these is a joy, even with .357 full house loads! I assume the prices is higher than the stainless, because the bluing takes more time than just a quick polish. The only better duty gun would be The Colt I Frame Python. These are fabulous revolvers! Id like to see a recessed cylinder on these, and maybe a pinned barrel, but Smith & Wessons progressive -X numbers are usually cost cutting measures. Sometimes changes were made for reliability, but it was mostly a way to manufacture the guns, for less money. They are still fabulous revolvers! I am happy to see the 686 back in blue! Timing did vary a tiny bit from chamber to chamber on the cylinder, with some locking up slightly earlier of later than others. That is normal even on the older 686, 586, 27, 28, 19, 66, etc. The wood grips are beautiful, but I might set those aside for some Pachmeyers to make shooting more comfortable, and preserve the beauty of these lovely grips.
The L frame 586 4 is without a doubt one of the finest duty weapons ever produced by Smith& Wesson. The 586 3 is my favorite carry pistol.
Very nice firearm. Can be conceal carried in leather or kydex holster. A classic! Having this on the belt gives one a great feeling of security. If you don't like the poly semi automatics or the push to drop all calibers but the 9mm. This Smith should be seriously considered.
