The WW-15 Government Rifle is a target & hunting rifle inspired by some early developments of the AR-15 rifle. This Government rifle features a 4150 Chrome Moly Vanadium 11595E Steel barrel with Chrome Lining in the Bore and Chamber for long wear and ease of cleaning. Barrels are chambered for 5.56 NATO ammo, and are safe for both .223 and 5.56 NATO.
I've always wanted an AR-15 that was as close to an M1-6-A2 service as legally possible and I found it in this rifle. I had been keeping an eye out on this particular model to see if they ever went on sale and when it did I jumped on the purchase.
I really can't wait to zero the rifle in and try different types of ammo in it to see which grain will hold a better shot group. The first time I shot it I only had 55 grain, which is not the best for the rate of twist on this rifle but it worked for the day.
Honestly amazed at the quality of this rifle. As close to the real thing as you're going to get. Takes me back to basic training. Like it better than a Colt.
I purchased my Windham back in January and have no regrets. It is a great rifle. Smooth and reliable. Have not had any issue with it. Has shot everything I put through it. I love it and could not be happier with my purchase. One happy camper.
My initial review was that during the first 120 rounds I had some ftfs. I am happy to say that after 400 rounds ftfs have disappeared. Nice rifle with a larger sight radius.
Since I posted my original review of this rifle, I have tried to contact Windham regarding my experience and issues with this weapon. I have not received the first reply, let alone any willingness to try to help resolve them.
If The folks at WW are as qualified at building AR’s as they advertise, there should be NO issues with these rifles.
And if they are as quality oriented as they claim to be, they should be willing to help customers resolve issues with their products. I have seen NO evidence of either.
What I have seen is dirty, sloppy mass produced products stuffed in a pretty plastic case and rush shipped to their retailers. And I might add shipped with cheap substandard magazines that don’t work and cause feeding issues. I personally think that there is a lot left to be desired as it relates to the reputation of this company. Severely over rated by design and lacking in addressing customer concerns and satisfaction. Beware what you purchase from Windham and don’t expect any service or help after the sale. It simply will not happen.
I have five other Windham rifles and all work great, 5 stars! This rifle has had some ftfs on three different mag brands and two types of ammo. The rifle only has about 120 rounds through it, so I am hoping it works itself out in the near future. Seems like the bullet is jamming/sticking on the feed ramp. A good hit on the forward assist and it feeds. We will see.
This firearm delivered to me in the nastiest condition you can imagine.
Full of grease and had a filthy barrel. Cleaned it and took it to the range. Sights so far out of adjustment that I couldn’t even get on paper at 50 yards. Had to adjust 6 inches left and 1 1/2 feet down to get on paper at 50 yards. 20 round clip sent with the gun does not easily clip in. Slips right back out of the magazine well. Luckily I ordered 2 10 round Pmags that seem to work well.
Cheap trigger assembly. Very rasp and not comfortable to fire with. Hard on the trigger finger. I have it sighted dead on at 50 yards and now I can’t get on paper at 100 yards. Back to the drawing board! Wish I’d spent the extra $500-$600 and bought a Colt. You get what you pay for folks!!
I was so impressed with my first carbine Windham Weaponry rifle I had to buy another Windham. I tell you what, these boys know how to build a high quality freedom stick. I took it to the range today and put 200 rounds through it. It ran perfectly and is such a soft shooting rifle. I've never owned a rifle that I didn't have to adjust the sights until now. The balance of it with the government profile barrel is amazing. Sportsman's Outdoor Superstore shipped it to me in less than a week. SOSS hooked me up!
In 2011 I purchased a DPMS Oracle because it's all I could find for a decent price. I've always wanted the full rifle length AR, though, but at that point and time all were well over 1k unless you built it yourself, at which time I didn't have enough experience to know how easy that actually is. That being said, when the sale hit for 650 for this, I knew I had to have it even though I sold my WASR 10 to be able to afford it. Pitched it as a trade to the Mrs....who would have otherwise demanded some type of jewelry as a present...so me in my cheap ways were able to sidestep this Haha.
At any rate, shipping was quick and I was thoroughly impressed by the quality of the whole firearm. It is definitely worth the full non sale price tag of 1k for sure. I cleaned it and lubed it as you would any other AR and took it to the range. After sight adjustments at 50 yards I was getting decent 2-3 groupings with open sights. At 100 Yards I was getting about 5-7 groupings which isn't too terribly bad in my opinion with open sights. I'm sure others would do better than me, as I'm still working on my form and firing positions. Conditions were 1-5 MPH breeze from behind and the ammo fired was 55 grain Federal Lake City ammo.
I had ordered some 62 grain Lake City from SOSS but due to a mix up it had to be sent back, as it was sent in stipper clip configuration with fewer rounds than what I'd paid for. I did have some jams from a 20 round steel promag which I tossed and deferred afterwards to use the provided mag as well as some milspec STANAG aluminum mags...all of which had no further jamming issues. At any rate, this was an exceptional purchase for the price. I must also note that till this point, I've never been able to find an AR with a chrome lined barrel, so that was a big plus for me. This is my 3rd firearm purchase from SOSS and I will continue to do business with them moving forward.
Wish it was this much when I bought mine
Beautiful and accurate. Glad i went this way instead of buying a Colt!
