(4 out of 5) Good Rifle
by from Dickinson, TX on

This is a very good hunting rifle for medium to long range. 600yards. Only issue I have is the magazine is very hard to insert. You really have to bang it in place or it falls out. Love the adjustability of the trigger.

(1 out of 5) Delamination
by from Pompano Beach, FL on

I purchased this rifle last October as a backup to my .300 Win Mag and as a rifle my stepson would use and grow into. Having not had an opportunity to sight it in last season, it never came out of my humidity free 40 gun safe. I took it out three weeks ago to sight in for opening day in GA. I noticed some random white markings all over the stock but thought nothing of itfigured it was dry and just needed to be wiped off. After zeroing it in at 100 yards, it shot pretty well and I was grouping consistently. The white markings were actually a little worse when I left the range. I put it back in the safe and pulled it out to head for GA. I showed my buddy the places where it was kind of bubbling up white and came to realize that the stock was peeling everywhere. After returning home I took it to my gunsmith and he said it was some sort of a clear coating that was simply delaminating and there was nothing I could do to fix or stop it. I wrote to Savage as this was my first Savage rifleI own about 8 other brands. That was a couple of weeks ago and still no response. It’s a good shooting rifle, a little heavy with the heavy barrel, the scope is pretty decent considering the price, but the stock is garbage! I would get it in black or some other pattern as I would not trust this Kryptek Camo from Savage again. Like I said, good rifle for the money but the stock is crap and apparently Savage doesn’t care. Had the gun been used heavily or mistreated, I wouldn’t think as much of it, but for it to be brand new and kept properly in a humidity controlled safe, I have no faith in Savage’s ability to produce a good stock. Buy a different color scheme if you want this rifle. Or you might be pretty disappointed at how this great looking rifle disintegrates without even using it.

(5 out of 5) Very nice rifle and fast shipping
by from Chesterfield, VA on

I bought this rifle 2 weeks ago. Took it to range yesterday and zeroed in with 3 shots. The rifle is great, the trigger works like a charm. Scope is not the best but, it's not too bad. Very pleased with this purchase. Put about 80 rounds through on July 4th, and plenty more to come Im sure.

(5 out of 5) Love this rifle!
by from Weeki Wachee, FL on

I own a standard Axis .308 in black but wanted to give the Axis II .308 a shot because of the better trigger so I bought this one. I absolutely love this rifle, I took it to the range and zeroed it, it was on paper out of the box but was low and left. I quickly got it sighted in using Federal Non-Typical 150grain at 100 yards. The following weekend I went on a hog hunt and nailed the 1st hog that I saw, the rifle was right on and the boar dropped within 20 seconds of being hit. The stock Bushnell scope is actually very decent and more then clear enough for my uses. I've gotten a lot of compliments on the Kryptek Highlander finish, I also bought a matching case for it. I like the pattern as it is different from the run of the mill rifles around. I highly recommend Savage rifles they exceed my expectations and are a steal for their price. I probably will buy a 3rd .308 for my wife before our next hunt.

(4 out of 5) Excellent Rifle for the Price
by from Mount Vernon, Indiana on

Had the opportunity to get some range time with mine today. I have a Vortex HST 4-16x44 MRAD scope and was shooting with a rear squeeze bag and bipod. Trigger is amazing. I've shot a few rifles that were 4-10 times the price of this and I would say this trigger is better than half of them and on par with the rest. Action is fairly smooth, had a 3 rounds out of 50 that didn't want to feed, and 2 that didn't eject well, but I was trying to catch the brass so I think those 2 were operator errors. Kryptek Highlander is cool looking, but the stock does seem to flex and touch the barrel a little with the bipod use. This is not a huge deal for me, but know some people care. Once sighted in, I achieved sub-moa with Federal Gold 168 grain, and 1.25 groups with some cheap ppu 148gr ammo. I only have about 50 rounds through it 20 with new scope so I expect the groups to tighten up as I break in the barrel. The Bushnell that comes with it is now on my Thompson Center Compass and was able to give me sub-moa with it, so the scope is nice for a hunting scope. Only complaint is that the scope bases are too far apart. Using my Vortex scope and rings, the scope barely and I mean no lee-way what-so-ever fits in the rings. So I can't move it forward or backward to adjust for eye relief. Kinda a pain in the neck, literally. I purchased this to use as a bench gun, I think it's a little heavier than I would want to carry as a hunting rifle, but definitely do-able. Outside of that, great shooter, looking forward to trying to stretch it to 500 yards with some 174 grain match ammo, and the scope is a decent hunting scope.

(5 out of 5) Excellent Rifle Out Of The Box
by from Virginia Beach, VA on

Right out of the box I was on paper at 100 yards, with excellent groupings. My only issue is that the bolt is pretty stiff when racking a round and reloading. Other than that, it shoots excellent.

Great customer service; quick response to questions and info request.

(5 out of 5) A+ Rifle
by from Daytona Bch, FL on

Beautiful rifle through and through. I was impressed from the bore to the stock to the handle and weight. But the best part.. THE scope is nicer than my Nikon. 308 Rifle is worth $700 flat out. Great steal of a deal.
