Product Description
The XD® Mod.2™ 5” Tactical Model packs 16 rounds of 9MM ammo in each of its two included stainless steel magazines. While it’s a double stack design, it’s not too thick to carry like so many of the competitors’ models. Measuring just 1.2 inches wide, it is barely wider than single stack pistols with far lower capacity.
A pistol with a healthy sight radius is easier to shoot under stress, and that’s why Springfield chose to fit the Mod.2™ Tactical Model with a full five-inch hammer forged carbon steel barrel. It’s treated with Melonite® to stand up to moisture, sweat, and other undesirable conditions over the long haul.
The slide takes most of the day to day wear and tear, so Springfield made sure to construct that from Melonite®-treated carbon steel too. While Springfield always recommends properly caring for your handgun, the Mod.2™ Tactical isn’t one that will require babying. This combat-ready gun is designed to be used, not left in the safe.
Fast and accurate shooting requires control, so Springfield included all of the Mod.2™ enhancements. Springfield High Hand™ grip near the beavertail and below the trigger guard allow you to put support close to the bore line to minimize muzzle flip. The new GripZone® contours and texturing are specifically designed to provide maximum purchase at specific points where your hands and fingers require the most contact. Three different textures provide the friction needed without painful overkill.

Might be my new favorite 9. This thing will drive tacks. Very accurate at 30 feet. 6 plates as fast as you can pull...
Short take: Accurate, reliable and a pleasure to shoot. Longer take: I've shot over 1K rounds of FMJ and JHP from various manufacturers and not 1 issue. This gun has a great sight picture and is as accurate or more accurate than any of my guns from HK, Sig or S&W. Additionally, the gun is fun to shoot and it is easy to go through 200+ rounds per range session.
The gun is well made and constructed. The fiber optic front sight and square barrel make it easy to acquire a target and the gun stays down on the target nicely. The trigger is very good as well as the reset. My only complaint is the safety built into the back strap, it takes away from a good ergonomic feel of the gun.

The gun felt great in my hand out of the box. The front sight is very nice. I love the recoil on the large gun. I bought the tactical model with the 5 inch barrel. I’ve shot about a thousand rounds of all kinds of ammo without a miss fire and I haven’t cleaned it.
This is definitely my best overall handgun in my arsenal. Why? I've had no jams, and it is accurate as hell. Clean it well after the first 50 rounds and every 100 rounds thereafter. I purchased this XD pistol in 2019 and it still shoots like new. No need to change the grip as it really fits well considering I wear XL gloves.
