Designed with the latest U.S. Military standards in mind, the Ruger American Pistol with Manual Safety is built to perform in the harshest conditions. A true American innovation, this pistol was developed through a rigorous “Voice of the Customer” process – where numerous law enforcement and military trainers, firearms experts, distributors and retailers provided input, feedback and testing in the determination of the form, function and features of this firearm. The resultant new pistol is a revolutionary platform for Ruger, one that utilizes the combination of a recoil-reducing barrel cam (which is designed to better spread recoil energy over time) with a low mass slide, low center of gravity and a low bore axis to provide an unparalleled shooting experience.
Have fired every combination of rounds through this gun. Expensive to cheap mixed in each mag, no FTF, no FTE, no glitches at all. I also own the compact version, same thing. Feels good, good weight, solid, dependable every time.T
Pros- This pistol has low recoil, and is very accurate. Cons- You have to grip the pistol so that you don’t drop the mag accidentally by pushing the releases.
It is a wonderful gun! I highly recommend anyone getting one.
I bought Ruger 3 months ago and since the first day I am having problems with the extraction. It is not possible to use all kinds of bullets, it is unfortunate since the weapon has a good design and I loved it when I saw it. However, I do not recommend it since I am not sure with it.
Love this pistol! Awesome firearm! Thank you Mr. Ruger!
Sportsman's Outdoor Superstore had the lowest price around for this pistol. This is a very nice firearm. Not overly heavy. Very nice trigger action. Very manageable recoil. The changeable grips allow you to find the best fit. The small worked best for me and I don't consider myself to have small hands. Will likely change the sights out to something brighter at some point. Only two very minor issues. The magazine does slightly wobble and slap the mag well. I noticed it while I was walking while it was on my hip. Otherwise I never notice it. The other is that the slide release catches on the left side only. I am a lefty so I want to use the ambi slide release and use my left thumb on the right side of the pistol. The problem is there is too much flex while using the right side slide release to carry over all the way to the left side to release the slide reliably. I am hoping as the spring breaks in that the forward force on the slide release when engaged will lighten just enough so it will work properly. If you are a righty and use your right thumb on the left side this will not be an issue for you.
