(5 out of 5) Great Rifle for the price
by from Marietta, GA on

I ordered this rifle with the Vortex Strike Fire sight bundled in as an early Christmas present. I've put 5 different types of ammo through it, Federal Power-Shok 150 and 180, Winchester Super X 150 and 180 and Sellier & Bellots 147 fmj. So far I've only had issues with the S&B 147 grain, which failed to cycle the bolt after a round. If you plan on purchasing, be ready to switch out the basic furniture to make the rifle more functional and modern.

(4 out of 5) Great gun for the price.
by from Palm City, FL on

Only had it out twice so far. The first time, I shot it right out of the box, and it would not cycle. Tried two types of cheap ammo, but it would never cycle to pick up the next round. It ejected the spent brass ok, but did not pick up the next round. I brought it home, cleaned it and bought a few new magazines for it. Today I shot it again with 3 types of ammo. It only cycled with the Federal. It didn't cycle with Wolf, Malaysian or PPU. It did just fine with the Federal though, and with all magazines. Thinking I will be putting an adjustable gas block on it. Not what I was hoping for, but for the price, this is a very nice gun. Was hoping it would feed like my PTR91, which will eat up whatever I feed it.

(3 out of 5) bought new, mailed it to S&W
by from Pensacola, FL on

S&W has had the rifle longer than I have. I mailed it back. Ammo, does not cycle.... short cycle on all ammo. I shot 40 rounds as a single shot rifle, I tried a heavier spring and buffer with no success. I got frustrated and mailed it back. I have to admit, when I called S&W, they did not seem like it was a surprise, they promptly sent me a FedEx return instructions. will see how long this takes... Missed a hog hunt. SOSS processing was great! I'll buy from here again, I just expected so much more from a Smith & Wesson product....

(3 out of 5) Looks Great! Had some problems
by from Dallas, TX on

147 FMJ shot fine out of this rifle. Moved to 168 bullets, some stovepipes. 175 bullets will not cycle properly. This rifle has a lot of recoil! It seems the buffer & recoil spring are to light. I'm guessing a heavy buffer and a good flat wire recoil spring would fix this problem. I will be calling S&W.
