I have shot many AR firearms but this was my first one to own. I absolutely love this firearm. Easy to handle, clean, and on target. Too bad I lost it in a boating accident.
Added a Romeo 5 site, took to the range. Accurate and reliable. Highly recommend.
Swapped out the 10.5 for a 7.5, and a quad rail. Got about 1000 rounds through it right now, kinda Regretting that tho since the price of ammo has gone up substantially. Not a single issue. No failure to feed, stove pipes, not a thing. trigger was a little stiff in the beginning, but after around 500 rounds, it got smooth.
After receiving my AR pistol I installed an Eotac sight, really quick to pick up and accurate in fact this pistol is amazingly accurate using the Eotac and a bench rest I was able to place 5 shots in 1.5/1.25in at 100yrds not bad for a 10.5 bbl. Note to any BATF officer reading these reviews, at no time was the brace used as a shoulder stock!!!
I have a few ARs but like many, you cant just have one. So I thought I would give this Ruger a try. I had read good reviews, and thought it might be worth a run. IT WAS It handles well out of the box, I slapped some iron sights on it, and took it to the range. I can say my first 300 rounds, had better than expected groups considering it was the first time I took it out. I have taken it back a few times now, and I am very use to the trigger on this thing. I know people who rush to upgrade, but I am sticking with it the way it is. The brace is the only thing I didnt like. But I knew that when I bought it. I am not a fan of this type of brace because it just feels cheap. But that was a simple upgrade, and now this is one of my for sure range play toys.
Aside from the gallon of machine oil cascading out of every crevice of the gun, it works great! P.S. I highly recommend disassembling the rifle to dry up the excess oil. Use this opportunity to learn about the workings of your new firearm.
I was hesitant to purchase this firearm because you know the cliche you get what you pay for well thats not the case here I feel like I ripped RUGER off , this is a quality firearm straight out the box . I took this pistol to the range and it is deadly accurate with flip up sights I wish I could say its all my skill but ill give credit to the Ruger pistol . Go buy one of these bad boys you will not be disappointed
Ruger can be hit and miss on fit and finish and my particular 5.56 pistol does demonstrate some quality issues. When the pistol arrived, it had so much machine oil coming off of it that I had to spend a few hours taking it apart and wiping it down. The anodized finish is inconsistent and most of the surface areas feel abrasive or scuffed. The charging handle develops more friction resistance from the upper receiver than from the buffer spring. The dust cover does not seat properly into the upper receiver ejection port. It actually has some spring resistance causing it to slightly protrude from the ejection port. When I disassembled the BCG, I struggled to place the firing pin retaining pin back into position. After several minutes I took a file to the edge of the retaining pin and finally managed to get it back in. On a subsequint reassemble, the retaining pin broke. easy fix This issue has been noted by other owners. The trigger pull is heavy with a little too much creakiness imho. Now, if youre looking for a bargain AR pistol that goes pew, pew, pew when you pull the trigger, this does meet the need. 340 rounds steel and brass without a hiccup so far, but not my first go to. :
That said, however, if I did, I would give the Ruger AR 556 pistol top marks thus far. I waited to post this review until I was able to get it on range, sight it, then cycle. So far, I love it. I love the fact that its American made, too. My first Ruger`;` likely, wont be my last. My next one will likely be the full-size AR, then Im curious re: the SR40c. As for shipping and customer service, so far, the unit was shipped in what I felt was more than reasonable time given the current constraints on the system with the virus thing. As for customer service, I haven't had to use them so far. All in all, I'm glad with my purchase and if buying new again, Id look at Sportsmans Outdoor Superstore again as a top consideration. Hope this helps! Peace!
My first ar pistol. Got for an awesome sale price. Fit and finish on this pistol is impressive for the price point. Fast shipping/ good buying experience
It did amazing job at the range. I did have a problem during the first test. One of my gas rings in the bolt’s piston had a Malfunction and folded over the bolt and had a Severe jam and had to put it away after the first 60 rounds. Had to buy new gas rings and just recently got them and waiting to go test it again. I'll give an update once i go on the 2nd test.
Put 200 rounds through it straight out of the box no jams no hang ups. Even put some steel case rounds through it with no problem.. although I don’t recommend putting steel case rounds through any gun. I love this gun!
3 months owned/ 400 rounds through 0 misfires/ hang ups DEFINITELY RECOMMEND THIS FIREARM
I absolutely Love it. Being from Maryland means overzealous and irrational gun laws. So i was ecstatic when i found out I could buy this. I love it. My only complaint is it didn't take off brand mags well. 2 or 3 shots and it would jam. It worked like a charm with MAGPUL mags. I threw out the cheapo AR mags and run strictly MAGPULS and haven't looked back. A must buy for the collection.
I ordered the Ruger AR-556 on Thursday 4/16/20 and it arrived at my ffl on Thursday 4/30/20. The firearm shipped complete and in perfect-factory-new condition. I tightened the set screws for the mlok free-floating handguard. Other reviews mentioned they had come loose or were not tight when they got it I attached a seekins precision angled foregrip, 45 degree offset sights, and a red-dot. Cant wait to put some rounds through it!!!
Ordered last week and it arrived today. That was faster than I anticipated with the backlog of orders right now. Great job Sportsmans Outdoor Superstore you have a customer for life. As for the pistol Fantastic. Just put 200 rounds through it without issue. Accurate and reliable. Very happy customer.
I just bought this gun and finally picked it up from my ffl gun shop. I brought the rifle home and bam, first thing there something wrong with the gun. The charging handle won’t unlock. I have to bang from behind to get the charging to come back out and that’s if it does come back out. This is ridiculous! I bought this gun and saw good reviews and now I’m unpleased with this product...
Great firearm. Shoots anything you put through it. “Stabilizing brace” is perfect. No complaints!
Great pistol! I have put 600 rounds through it and the only issues I had was that the gas block was loose. After I tighten it up with lock tight it ran flawlessly, great trigger, overall super happy with what Ruger did. 5 stars all day!
I purchased this in spring 2018. Best price from Sportsman's Outdoor Superstore. I have another full size AR but I shoot the Ruger 556 pistol more then the others. It's a blast to shoot. Iron sites with red dot. Very accurate to 75 yards. Still hitting steel target at 100 yards. You will not regret buying this pistol.
This is my first AR. I was skeptical to say the least about getting a shorter AR. Several people at gun stores discouraged me from getting one. It was between the Saint Victor, and this one. They both were very close in overall length, so I went with the Ruger.
I’m glad I did, the extra 3” of barrel proved to be a good choice. I would recommend this gun to anyone. You can’t beat the price, this is one of those rare instances where I got more than I paid for.
Ruger has created a winner! This is an excellent entry level AR pistol with all of the basic features in an AR pistol. The SB Tactical SBA3 brace is excellent. Placed a Vortex SPARC AR red dot and had it dialed in after a few rounds. Fired several hundred rounds of brass and a couple hundred steel cased rounds without any issues.
The only item I personally upgraded was the grip. This pistol is an excellent value and defines Ruger quality!
I have several AR rifles, but this is my first AR pistol. Couldn't pass it up for the price, especially with the SB stabilizing brace. Cleaned and lubed it and took it to the range and fired 110 rounds through it without any problems.
Half Fiocchi 55gr fmj and half Federal AE 55gr fmj. I only shot it at 50 yards, but with the Primary Arms red dot, I was able to shoot 1¼ groups from a rest. Not bad for an old man with astigmatism.
Purchased this pistol sight unseen and it is really great. I liked it so much that I just purchased 2 more of them. I did do a lot of research on them before I made this purchase and I could not find any negative comments about it at all.
Ruger has been around a long time and I expect that this pistol will be too. Sportsman's Outdoor Superstore does a wonderful job of shipping it when they say they will and the receiving FFL folks had no problems. Will purchase from them again if I ever have enough money after this 2nd purchase.
Very satisfied with my new pistol and the customer service I experienced.
Best Bang for the Bucks!
Great pistol. Feels tight the action is amazing. More than I expected. Quality Ruger product at affordable price. Ruger and SOSS are a winning combo!
