The venerable big–game–dropping performance of the 45–70 Gov’t. is now available in a compact gun that weighs only 7 lbs. It features an 18½" inch barrel and a straight-grip stock for fast pointing. For corrosion resistance, the Model 1895GS comes with all major metal parts machined from stainless steel.

The fit and finish on mine seems to be pretty good. I think the quality control on these newer Marlins have gotten better now. The lever action was smooth as butter on mine and the black walnut stock was cut and installed with no open spaces against the stainless steel receiver. Buck Horn sights are decent and the offset hammer spur is also stainless steel. This Marlin 1895 chambered in 45-70 makes a good hunting and defense rifle. Very happy with this purchase.
