What’s uglier than a Hi-Point? The predecessor to the Hi-Point: the Haskell. The OG king of blocky and ugly, but functional. It’s covered in dings and scratches, the grip screws look like rusty drywall screws, the underside of the trigger guard looks like it was sanded down to bare metal for some reason, and there is some kind of crusty molten polymer gunk where the trigger guard meets the grip frame. I like it.

Granted, it was missing the magazine release. I’m not going to go on eBay looking for one, spending $45 on a part for a gun that cost only twice that. So, I looked at some images and schematics, made a rough model, and 3D printed it. It works. And having a rough 3D-printed part just adds character, to be honest. ¯\_?_/¯

I thought: what more can I do to christen my new ugly beauty? So, I painstakingly designed and 3D printed my own checkered grips with the HK logo on the bottom. But instead of reading "Heckler & Koch," the bottom reads "Haskell & Kock."

To top it off, I took gold enamel and smeared it into all the dings, scratches, and engraving, wiping the excess off so the letters and wear and tear were highlighted. I kinda wish I could upload photos for a review, but I didn’t test the firearm until after all this work was performed. That it functions makes the effort all the more satisfying.
