Combining popular M&P characteristics with existing Bodyguard 380 features, the new M&P Bodyguard offers consumers a uniquely engineered, lightweight self-defense pistol. Compact, sleek and ergonomic, the M&P Bodyguard pistol benefits from new fish scale serrations on the rear of the slide for ease of use and like other M&P pistols, ships complete with two magazines.
Chambered for .380 ACP, the lightweight sub-compact pistol features a high-strength polymer frame with a black, Maximum Corrosion Resistant (MCR®) coated stainless steel slide and barrel. The new M&P Bodyguard is standard with a 2 ¾ inch barrel, which contributes to an overall length of 5 ¼ inches and an unloaded weight of only 11.85 ounces. Additional standard features include a rapid second-strike capability, thumb safety, take-down lever and stainless steel drift adjustable sights.
Fantastic conceal carry weapon. I liked it so much I bought a second one! It fits into pockets nice and easy. I only had one fail to eject with cheaper loads so only use quality brass rounds. I have run hundreds of rounds through flawlessly!!
I purchased this weapon as a gift for my niece who is also LTC. As soon as I received it, I took it to the firing range and have to say:1 It is amazingly light and conceals very easily, 2 Packs quite a punch whether using standard FMJ rounds or hollow points,3 Quite accurate at 15 yards with almost no recoil! As long as you give the magazine a solid hit in, it is ready to go! The safety takes a little getting used to but is well worth it, especially when one is in the chamber! I have to admit I am very impressed with this firearm as it is my first S&W purchase but by no means my last!
My primary weapon is a Taurus PT111 G2 9MM that is extremely reliable, powerful, and easy to maintain, having run at least 1000 rounds through and I thoroughly enjoy using! But, after trying the MP Bodyguard 380, I will be purchasing 2 of them, one as a backup weapon for me, and another for home defense! Very Nice!!
I bought this pistol to use as summer CHL and hoping the lightweight, slim and size of the bodyguard would fit my usage! Well, everything about this pistol is great! My only gripe is the horrible trigger. It is very, very long and heavy. After shooting 3 magazine my finger is really sore. I compare this to my wife's Ruger LCP Gen 1 and the trigger is so much better even though the LCP have the long double stage trigger. I understand the philosophy of having a long and heavy double action pull on DAO pistol but, come on S&W this Bodyguard trigger is just not acceptable out of the box! I upgraded it with the aftermarket trigger. It is slightly better but the trigger pull is still very heavy. I would caution anyone getting this pistol to try it out. If I given a second try I would get the LCP!
So I purchased the M&P BG .380 back in 2014 for the obvious reason; discrete firepower. I had a pocket holster and was carrying the gun there for almost 3 years. On Tuesday I stopped to adjust it in my pocket and found the mag had popped out slightly. When I went to put it back it wouldn't engage the release catch. It fell out all the time rendering my defensive gun for all intents a .380 single shot derringer. It will not stay in unless it's held in, and that is unacceptable. I called S&W and they told me that I would not be able to send it to get fixed till August. What am I supposed to do? Luckily I had purchased a Bersa Thunder, plus last summer just didn't know I would need it so soon I found a local gunsmith who says he can repair it, but I've lost all confidence in this gun. Till S&W offers a metal mag catch or recalls the gun to put one in, it will happen again and I'm not the only one it's happening to. I'm planning to sell mine once it's fixed. Then I'll probably consider a revolver for my backup gun needs. Once upon a time, S&W made good guns but to compete today they have had to make serious engineering compromises. This is probably my last Smith and Wesson product I'll ever buy. Do yourself a favor and look for something else. It's a fine shooting gun, but without a mag that stays in it's a 12 ounce paperweight. It worked fine till it didn't
I actually own 2 of these. These are great carry pistols for when you are wearing light clothing. I even carry mine when I work out or go running. I've put at least 100 rounds through each of mine with ZERO malfunctions. Only con for me is the external safety. May be a plus for you if you prefer that.
I am a retired LEO and have carried a weapon of some sort with me every day for the past 37 yrs. This is my first .380 and I am impressed. The sights are spot on and I find it accurate up to the 15 yard mark at the range. After that, the groupings begin to expand. I have fired 800 rounds of 95 grain FMJ and 50 rounds of 90 grain Speer Gold Dot to break the pistol in and every round fed and ejected without incident. The only negative I see in this pistol is the thumb safety is so flat it is hard to engage it. Disengaging the thumb safety is easier, but takes more effort than the larger frame M&P shields. Trigger pull is smooth and long. I estimate my weapon to be about an 8lb pull. The magazine with the extended finger grip makes this gun much easier to shoot. I would suggest getting an extension for the 2nd mag. My use for this gun is up close and personal self defense 7-10 yards when carrying a larger J frame .38 or 9mm is not practical. I am so impressed, I am going to buy another one for my wife to carry when she is using a small purse. For the price, about $239 when they are on sale, makes this a very good buy for a quality gun. I hope this info helps.
Weapon looked great, felt great, easily concealed in a pocket but would never complete a single clip. This gun had failure to feed with the last round of each and every clip put in the gun. S&W was notified and they were glad to send me new clip springs. That did not solve the problem. I sent the gun back to S&W and when I got it the problem was not solved. The gun is currently back at S&W for further evaluation. I think I just want my money back.
This is my 1st 380 but my 2nd Gun purchased on this site... Gun was delivered as promised and the quality is amazing.. I highly recommend this gun over the Ruger; pay the additional monies and believe me you wont be disappointed.
