One word will summarize for me.
EXCELLENCE!
I've had my Kryptek Highlander 6.5 Creedmoor since last October. I have three other 6.5 Creedmoor rifles: Savage FCP, Ruger American Predator, and Thompson Center Compass. The Axis II shoots better than all of them. The FCP and Ruger American both shoot .5 MOA regularly. I can't get the creep out of the Compass trigger, and therefore it wont do better than 1.25 or so. The Axis II heavy barrel highlander shoots five shot groups less than .5 inch at 220 yards. That's better than .25 MOA. Outstanding rifle.
For $349 I was not sure what to expect! Well I am happy after trying it out, I have the 6.5 Axis II and it is a shooter. Different weight bullet did change the accuracy but were consistent. This gun cut paper right out of the box. Holes were touching for same weight bullet. Pick a bullet you want to hunt with and stick to it, you will be happy.
Wanted the 6.5 Creedmoor for low recoil and it had a reputation for accuracy. This rifle does it all. Not all ammo will shoot tight groups, but Hornady shot fantastic and I went with Hornady Brass and Bullets to make my own that shoot extremely tight. I did try some Winchester Ammo that was not good, but the ammo isn't the rifle. With good ammunition this rifle will shoot as good as any 6.5 Creedmoor on the market. I also own a standard Axis with a standard barrel. It shoots good too. I did do a trigger job on that one because the factory trigger is a bit heavy. But it shoots good too. Both Savages I have shoot much better than some Remingtons and Rugers that I own. And they cost me quite a bundle more. Savage gives you the most bang for the buck.
New favorite in the safe.
I received my Savage Axis II and immediately cleaned it and went to the range. The Bushnell scope was mounted at the factory so I was ready, and after about four shots I had it zeroed in at 100 yds, the accuracy was even better than I expected. My first four shots after the scope was zeroed were 1/2 moa group! Three of the shots were touching and the fourth was about 1/4 inch away from the others! This, considering I’m not an expert and the scope reticle is quite thick and I’m using off the shelf ammo from Hornady which I will say is very good and consistent! Mine is chambered in 6.5 Creedmoor, and I was shooting both 120 gr and 140 grain match ammo and both shot very good groups! The Camo stock is a little flimsy but didn’t seem to effect the accuracy and it looks great! Awesome rifle at any price but unbeatable at this price!
