excellent reliability and accurate enough for squirrels and other critters. I have had mine since 2012 and put many rounds through it, I think its safe to say over 15,000 rounds. I have no memory of a single malfunction that cant be linked to bad ammo or EXCESSIVE grime. Accuracy could be better but its enough for plinking and hunting. Runs most ammo fine but I would recommend plated ammo In any semi auto .22 and Remington Thunderbolts wax can gum it up very quickly. Gonna give mine to my nephew and buy another since its a perfect gun to teach anyone how to run a AR. On a side note I would be very careful riding a bolt on any range flag since some of them can pop the extractor and spring out. Easy fix though unless you lose the spring.
Great little rifle, I find that it runs great using the CCI AR Ammo. I have put over 1000 rounds thru the rifle without any problems. The S&W MP15-22 takes it's place with the rest of my keepers. I love to shoot this gun.
This is a great rifle, I have put around 300 rounds through it and not a single issue. I know it’s not a lot but it’s promising. Easy to clean and love the flip up sights it comes with. Would recommend to anyone who enjoys the AR platform but wants to shoot a lower cost .22lr price per round. Love my 5.56 but this is a lot nicer on the wallet.
I own one of these rifles. They're ok. Not very accurate, but I'm sure S&W never intended it to be. Maybe they did, I don't know.
What I do know is S&W's customer service is terrible. I've called them on three different occasions, and all three occasions I got the same don't give a damn attitude from three different reps.
The first time I called was about the butt stock being way too loose. The rep said, ok that's how it is on that rifle. I guess that makes it ok. Then he acted like I was putting him out when I mentioned that I do not think it is normal for the stock to be that loose. He responded, with a notable scoff, by telling me to send it in and they will look at it and that it will be 6-12 weeks turn-around time. I said, no thanks I'll deal with it.
The second time was for the latest recall. I ordered the tool to measure the bolt and then after two weeks after I were to receive it I still hadn't. I called them again and got the runaround. Again, their attitude was that it'll get there when it gets there. They recommended that I reorder it online this time. I took their advice and its been at least two weeks since the second order and I have yet to receive it. This is the last S&W anything that I will purchase. I'll only purchase from whomever provides good customer service. And accurate firearms. Savage Firearms comes to mind.
Purchased the M&P 15 22 and the M&P 15 Sport II in same day. Went to range and grip on 22 came loose and fell off. After recovering parts from ground I packed the gun up and brought it home. Tried to re assemble but screw would freely move in and out of threaded area. Contacted S&W and sent my brand new gun to them for repair. After 2 weeks I called for an update and their response was call back in 3 weeks and perhaps I can get a more precise update.
Of all my S&W products this is first time having a problem with one of their guns and, oh boy I’m sure glad about that. After reading so many horrible reviews I must agree!, Their customer service is not near other manufacturers.... so much so, this may be last S&W product for me. Oh well...Guess I’ll be buying another AR and 22 that I can feel comfortable about...especially in the customer service area. Ps.... just venting.
I have owned this rifle for 9 months and put ~more than 1000 rounds. Very accurate, lightweight and fun to shoot. So far seems to be very reliable but only time will tell.
I have a problem, or rather my new rifle has a problem. It doesnt work. In the first 300+ rounds, I had several failure to fire and failure to eject problems. AND the 25 round magazine would only accept 23. I was pissed off, but then I remembered how old my Winchester Super-X .22LR ammo was. So I took the weapon home, cleaned, lubed and inspected everything thoroughly. I also bought some fresh CCI Mini-Mags not recommended for Performance Center rifles but officially blessed for this one. If anyone knows a better factory load than CCIs, let me know. Back to the range, and at least I could now fit 25 rounds as advertised. Within the first 13 rounds, 2 two failed to load, the bolt jamming the cartridge diagonally with the bolt still partially open. Not wishing to damage the weapon, myself or others, I left. This time really pissed off. I got off the phone with S&W customer service this morning, and they just emailed me a FedEx return label. It seems I wont have to pay for shipping ore repairs if its a warranty issue. IF!!! By the way, theres roughly a 3 week turnaround or long guns right now. Cant shoot it. Wont sell it. Now really seriously extremely pissed off. I realize that the .22 caliber is not the most well conceived and executed round on the planet, but Ive owned other rifles and pistols that worked either flawlessly or nearly so. Hence this unhappy shooter will NOT recommend this to others.
I had written a review on the Smith & Wesson M&P 15-22. The rifle works great after i found the fix for the failure to eject the empty shells on You Tube. However, I had contacted S&W customer service for the first time on in early July, the last time i talked to them they said they would send return shipping label via USPS. It is now August 17th and I have still not heard from S&W. Gun is nice after had to make the repairs, S&W customer service is non existent...
This is the first gun I bought and registered into my name after years of shooting my fathers guns. I took this to the range shortly after getting it and shot Federal ammo through it but the gun had a hard time shooting it. About every 4 rounds jammed or did not fire. Since then, I did some research online and found out about CCI AR Tactical. After buying 600 rounds online, I shot 200 without a single jam or mess up. The gun shot perfectly and performs very well. Easy to clean because of it being mostly polymer. I HIGHLY recommend this gun if you're looking for something easy, fun, and cheap to shoot.
This will be several part review:
1. Sportsman's Outdoor superstore service was great, I had to delay the shipping on my gun due to my FFL dealer being out of town, Sportsman's was able to accommodate me with no problems, I give them a rating of 5.
2. The M&P15-22, when I took it out to shoot it I could not get more that a couple of shots before it would jam. I took it home and dissembled it and cleaned it to perfection, took it out to shoot, same problem. By now I am hating the gun, it would not fire more that 3 rounds before it would jam the expended cartridge. I called Sportsman's and again they were great, gave me the number to S&W. The rating on the gun at this point is a 0, I have no use for a gun that will not perform as advertised.
3. I called S&W customer service and explained the problem, they told me they would email a return label and instructions. I waited for 3 days and did not receive an email, I called S&W back and they said they would resend the instructions, I again waited 3 days with no email. I called customer service a 3rd time, we decided that they would mail me the return label and instructions, that was on July 23rd, it is now Aug 1st and no instructions or return shipping label. I was looking around on You Tube and found a video that explained exactly what my problem was and how to fix it. I did the repairs outlined on the You Tube video and now the guns is working without fault, I have put 200 rounds through it with no malfunctions. With a company as big as S&W I do not feel that I should have to go to YOU Tube to find the problems and correct them. The Item should work correctly out of the box. My low rating is a direct result of the customer service that I did not receive from S&W.
3. If you purchase on of these guns, be prepared to have to repair it yourself as S&W customer service was very poor performance for me.
4. Now that the gun is working properly, I want to report that is is fun to shoot and will be an asset in my 3Gun training.
Ordered Sunday and received Thursday. How is that for service!! Will shoot tomorrow, thank you!
Fast Shipping. Received it in 5 days. Took it to the range with my wife and it functioned perfectly. Considering buying a second for the kids.
Bought this rifle a couple months ago and put a cheap red dot on it, fired a couple hundred rounds through it. Had a few malfunctions at first but due to the cheap ammo... not the rifle. After switching to the CCI mini mag ammo not a single jam. My wife has now taken it over. She loves shooting it!
I love this gun. I've only ever had handguns, so this is my first ever rifle. I wish this was my first gun purchase. Handguns can be snappy, especially sub-compacts, but THIS gun is an absolute pleasure to shoot. I had a few issues the first 2 times I took it to the range. I was having failure to eject or failure to feed at least twice each magazine. I oiled it up a whole bunch each time and maybe it was just needing to be broken in because I haven't had problems since then. Be patient, I guess. This gun is so user friendly. I took my 8 year old daughter to the range and it was her first experience with shooting and she loved it. She begged me to take her back the very next day and loved it even more. It took me a while to get the sighs the way I suppose I need them but once adjusted, I am getting about a 1-2 inch grouping at 70ft with all 25 rounds. I wish my indoor range could go further. I expect to get much better over time and am considering a red dot sight or a scope to see just how much better grouping I can manage. I typically shoot 100+ rounds at the range and the cost of ammo is less than $5. What cheap fun! My handgun ammo costs at least 4x that and aren't anywhere near as fun to shoot. Until I bought this baby AR, I was really struggling to enjoy my experience at the range and I had even let my membership lapse. I would only go once every 3-6 months, just to make sure my every day carry was still working well. Now with this gun, I renewed my membership and I go 3-4 times per week. I might even buy another one because I am so impressed with it.
Probably the best OFTB setup I've witnessed in a rifle. Very light despite the appearance.
This gun is exactly like its big bother ARs. And a blast for all ages to shoot.
Ordered this m&p 15-22 on a Saturday. It arrived at my ffl dealer Tuesday and picked it up Wednesday. Great price to practice instead of using AR-15. Will order another firearm again.
Excellent price, shipped fast. Will use again.
As for the rifle itself, its fine. Smith & Wesson did an excellent job in building a dedicated AR-15/22. I was able to install aftermarket parts without issue and everything feels solid. As far as Sportsmans Outdoor Superstore, this was my first online gun purchase and it went smoothly. I had the rifle in hand within a week of purchase. No issues at all and I would definitely buy from them again.
Sportsmans Outdoor Superstore was helpful answering my questions when I called. The rifle shipped quickly, and arrived exactly as described. Everything functions like an AR. Mag eject, safety, charging handle, bolt etc. A threaded and solid barrel was a big plus for me when comparing this rifle with other AR style .22s. The sights are great, grouping at 75 yds was satisfying. The rifle cycled flawlessly with several kinds of ammo for me. Bottom line, if you're getting an AR style .22LR, this is the one to have! I bought 2 !!
This was the first rifle I ever bought and I guess I made the best purchase someone can make for a first timer. The ease to handle, the weight, ergonomics and the recoil, all work together to give you a great experience. Let's not forget the price - it's as affordable as can be within the margins of profitability. No regrets here!
Bought for my wife. She wanted a rifle with low kickback. This has hardly any at all. She was able to hit targets right out of the box. Very fun gun to shoot. We like to shoot, so this is a way to shoot with cheaper ammo. Have only had a few days but seems like it will last a long time. Smith and Wesson quality!!
I've been shooting mostly large caliber firearms 460 Magnum - 45-70 rifle, so when I read about this AR I decided to give it a try for a little less expense. I put a bi-pod and a red dot sight on it and have been having so much fun shooting. In just two weeks I've put over a thousand rounds through it and haven't experienced one misfire. It is so accurate I keep moving the target out farther because I shoot through the same half inch hole over and over even at 40 yards. Love it!!
Order a 10 rd mag, when you order rifle. It all goes together.
Arrived on time and for a price that could not be beat anywhere I looked. Online, big name stores, and small local shops this was the best price. Took it to the range today for the first time. Just oiled the bolt lightly before shooting. Put 150rds through it of 4 different ammo. Only 2 FTF and that was with Remington .22 Thunderbolt which I had heard gives certain semi-autos trouble. I blame it on it being the cheapest of the ammo I shot. Whether it was a mag dump or patient single shots, it was absolutely flawless and a tack driver to boot. Sighted in at 50yrds no problem. Only change will be a new butt stock and maybe grip, nothing else needed. I highly recommend esp for those getting your kids trained & used to the AR platform like I am with my girls. Enjoy!
Awesome little Semi-auto. Get one. You won't regret it.
What a great rifle. This thing has ate everything I have tried in it: CCI Tactical, Rem Golden Bulk, Fed Target Bulk; hundreds of rounds. NOT a single ftf, jam, ect. PERFECT!! love it.
This 22 rifle shot flawlessly 4 different kinds of ammo. I only put about 300 rounds through it so far. By far the best performance of a 22 semi auto I've experienced. I made no sight corrections, came sighted. Just a fun, nice shooting rifle. Very happy with this purchase. The price was amazing.
I was looking for a smaller firearm and was leaning towards purchasing a Glock 43. I did a little research and checked out these guys and decided to go with the shield. This company is great and is the only place I use when ordering online. The shipping was quick and the customer service was great. I received this firearm in 2 days and just let off 100 rounds yesterday. It feels great and I would suggest this firearm to everyone. I just placed an order for another one and look to make a purchase of a XDM in the next couple months.
I got this rifle quick. I ordered to begin teaching my son about this area so that he begins to develop a like for it. I haven't been able to take it to the range yet but plan on it this weekend possibly.
I got the 25 round mag and works great. I love it for first my rifle. Comes with everything you need right out of box. That was awesome but no ammo with it. But fired it and did a very good job! And it's very easy to use. I give it 5 out of 5 stars!
This gun is one tack shooting piece of machinery. Shot 200 rounds of Blazer with out any failures or stove pipes! Fast and reliable service thru S.O.S.S.
Just let me say, this is the neatest
little rifle of all time. I have fired over 800 rounds through it with only three malfunctions. 2 were the cause of the Ammo duds, and after 500 rounds without cleaning, it did fail to eject a spent shell one time. I did notice that if you choke up on the front stock and have big hands like I do, be careful not to let your hand rest against the bolt release, as this will cause the bolt not to hold open after the last round is fired. This happened to me, and was my fault, not a problem with the rifle.
For the price that I paid Sportsman's Outdoor Superstore for the M&P, I saved so much money that I could buy 2 extra magazines and a Blackhawk rifle case.
Again, a super rifle and a super great deal. Thank You, SOSS
I own a Scar 17, AK47, AK pistol, and a few other pistols and weapons. I have to say, this rifle is very accurate and extremely fun to shoot. It's made of all polymer, except the barrel of course. This would be a great first rifle for your kids, or in my case, just an inexpensive plinker rifle. If you get a suppressor for it, you don't need ear protection. Especially with sub-sonic ammo. It's so quiet, you can only hear the action and round impact on target. That's it. Highly recommended!
All you will be saying is WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!! this gun just nails 2 inch groups from 35 yards with the sights working perfect. Rapid fire hold good groupings as well. This is just a fun gun and great for some cheap plinking. Great quality and great price. I smile every time I shoot it. Smith and Wesson yet again produced a great product I stand behind. The customer service was quick as expected.
One of the more fun .22s I've owned. Chews through the worst of the worst bulk pack ammo without issue. So far I've been surprised at how well it works with a variety of .22 ammo. Does not appear to be particular at all about which brand it likes, the way .22s like to be. Would buy again. If you are just looking for a dedicated plinker and don't already have an AR that you want to put a .22 upper on.
Added a Rise 140 trigger and cmc anti walk trigger pins. Making this platform that much more fun. SOS had the best price, and their handling was well with in expectations when offering free shipping.
I'm still looking for the right ammo... was told CCI might be my best choice. Fun to shoot though.
Ive had a few .22 rifles over the years, and sold off my last one in 2013 because of being too picky on ammo, not really fun to shoot, pain to reload magazines, poorly made, etc. Well, in May of 2016 a coworker wouldn't stop talking up these S&W AR15-22s so I took a chance and bought one. Best gun purchase I think Ive ever made! This rifle has performed flawlessly. I've put 1500 rounds through it already with NO malfunctions or misfires. It doesn't care what ammo I feed it, it eats it all. Breaks down just like a regular .556 AR15, same function and controls, so great for a substitute for training. Wish all my guns ran this well.
Ive had to send mine back to S&W twice within the first year of ownership. I couldn't even finish a magazine without 5 or more failures to eject. After sending it to them for a fix the first time back out it had 3 out of battery fires. The 3rd blew the extractor off. Back to S&W it went. Still waiting to get it back. I just wish it worked as good as every one says.
Was my second purchase from SOS in less than a month. Great price.
Awesome rifle. Went through 500 rounds already and never had a problem. Light, precise, and looks great. You won't regret buying this rifle! It's extremely fun to shoot.
Great rifle, price was the best anywhere. Ran 200 rds thru it first day, five different brands. No issues whatsoever. Great gun
Very impressed with this rifle. It's extremely light but shares many features of more expensive ARs. Being a .22 felt recoil is practically nonexistent. You won't begin to appreciate it until you take it to the range. Very accurate and no failures of any kind. No complaints. Buy it!
On the S&W site they have a video of Jerry M. saying that it DOES have a threaded Barrel! Please confirm as I just ordered one and I need it to be threaded in order to put on a can!
I wasn't sure about this product at first, but I'm glad I purchased it! Works well and I'd definitely recommend it to a friend.
