(5 out of 5) Awesome range toy
by from Albany, OR on

I picked this up a while ago but didn’t want to review it until I had fired it as both a .44 and a .50 AE. I also picked up a .357 barrel and bolt, so it’s basically like having three Desert Eagles. My single biggest gripe is that when I went to pick it up from my FFL, the action was jammed because there was an orange zip tie stuck in in the action I’m assuming it had been sitting on a table at a gun show at some point, so the first thing I had to do was take a rubber mallet and wooden dowel and force the slide open. That was irritating, but I got over it. Now for the good. As the other reviewer said, it’s a freakin’ Desert Eagle! I’ve been wanting one of these since the first time I saw one in a movie in the 80s. This thing gets five stars for cool factor alone.

If you want to get attention at the range, buy one of these. And the price for the pistol with both the .44 and .50 AE barrels and mags was the deal of the century. Is it a practical gun Hell no! It is ridiculously huge and heavy. Is it reliable Not really. I had always heard that people have problems with .50 AE jamming, although I have the most problems with it jamming when I fire it as a .357 about every other magazine and I have never had a feed jam firing it as a .50. .44 is off and on. All of that being said, as one of my dream guns it doesn’t disappoint. I knew these things weren’t noted for their reliability, so I knew what I was getting into. I wouldn’t care if it jammed after every shot because it’s just a lot of fun to shoot.

It is the exact configuration I had been looking for, with the exception of having the American style safety lever, and NOT the Israeli one that is pictured, since this weapon is mostly a show piece, and a good portion of the reason to have is looks/aesthetics, this did take a couple of points off. I've had it for less than 2 months, used it twice, and it already developed rust on the frame right under the Grip at the horizontal part that's right under the grip, and when I tried cleaning it with a cleaning patch and gun oil, not only did the rust come off, but so did the finish, and now I have bare metal, what the actual #$%@.
Other than that, the purchase was easy, the shipping and transfer flawless, and will gladly buy from Sportsman's Outdoor Superstore again, as soon as they get what's on my wish list in stock. Not sure how to proceed and get this issue resolved, other than that, it is a freaking Desert Eagle in both .50 AE and .44 Mag. What can I say about this that you wouldn't know if you are browsing this weapon in this configuration You are here and we both know the reason why, so put your name on the list, and snatch one as soon as they become available, because they go as fast as they become available.
