With decades of reliable performance to its credit, Smith & Wesson’s 638 J-Frame remains among the best and most popular small-frame revolvers on the market.
I'm a 20 year Army veteran, very well versed in weaponry and this little revolver is my choice for personal protection. This is a very simple firearm to operate, pull the trigger. No magazine failures, failure to fire/feed. It goes BANG every time with any 38 ammo. It's also fun to shoot!!
This is my first time to buy a gun. It was very fast sending to the gun shop. I am very satisfied!
This a a classic wheel gun. No frills, a long trigger pull, and as simple as can be. The price was great as was the service if perhaps a bit slow. Buy one without worry!
I cant understand why this gun is not more popular. It combines the best of both hammer and hammerless snubbies.
Pros: Can be fired through a bathrobe or jacket pocket without jamming. Is 100% reliable. Eats any ammo. Light and easy to hide.Put bigger grips on for recoil sensitive people. Safe and easy to understand. Can be loaded and unloaded numerous times without damaging ammo. Great gun for household that has people who dont really like guns - but may have to use one. If you are worried about the 5 shot load, buy two for less than the price of a Sig. Will sit in a drawer untouched for decades and still work.
Cons: Trigger is way heavy at about 12 lbs DA. Can be easily fixed if you get the Apex J-Frame trigger kit for about $25 and it installs in less than 5 minutes. Can be snappy with plusP ammo. I use handloads with 148 grain wadcutter and some Bullseye powder. Its ugly no fix for that but the hump doesnt get in the way. Matte silver finish is hard to clean.
