First time out of the box couldn't get it to fire. The range person got it to fire a couple of times, it either wasn't ejecting the shell, or it would get stuck vertically trying to eject. I'm sending it back to S&W and see what they find out/fix.
Looks like a fun gun to shoot, I was very bummed out at the range. I'm hoping it's just defective, but the range person said they had it as a rental and got rid of it, because they were also having issues with it.
First of all, I got great service from SOSS as I ordered this on a weekend and picked it up at my FFL on Thursday. It couldn't have been better and these folks really mean it when they say they have it in stock and ready to ship.
The 380 EZ feels and shoots like a real gun and I shot 175+ rounds and it was very accurate with little recoil and very shootable, unlike your average mouse gun where you probably would never attempt shooting this much at a time. It was a pleasure to shoot and I had no problem with the grip safety as anyone reporting they do probably aren't holding it tight enough to safely fire any gun, as it didn't take a death grip to keep it depressed while firing.
I wanted to see if it was fussy about ammo so I shot Federal, Sig, Fiocchi, Aguila, Perfecta, LAX, and some 25 year old Winchester soft point and there were 2 stovepipes within the first 4 clips, and then there weren't any after that. Unlike some 380s this M&P 380 EZ isn't fussy about what you feed it as these rounds varied from FMJ round nose to FMJ blunt nose, Fiocchi HP, and the old Winchesters were soft point lead.
It was a lot of fun at the range and much like shooting your average 9 mm but with less felt recoil, something you could shoot all day without tiring.
The only downside is that 380 ammo is more expensive than 9 mm, but after a few high volume trips to the range I will settle down to firing it enough to stay sharp, but relegate my higher volume shooting to more affordable 9 mm and 22s. I had debated buying something less expensive, but I am glad I didn't as this is my third S&W and they are all smooth shooters, reliable, and are well built for the long term. Rent one at your local range to make sure you like it, and there is a good chance you will want one after that.
I am in the process of buying one, but have rented one at my local range which was a first generation with a thumb safety. As a rental this had been shot and handled a lot, yet it was still looking good and shot very well. The easy to rack slide is as advertised and loading the mags with the slide button to release the spring tension makes the need for an Uplula unnecessary as it couldn't be easier.
This was designed well for a growing market of folks who may have some problems racking and firing an average 9 mm.
Granted a 380 isn't as powerful as a 9 mm, but I wouldn't want to be on the business end of one, and the reputation that S&W has earned with their Shield lineup appears to be in play with this new edition. A pistol that can stand up to being a long term rental with countless rounds through it says a lot about the kind of reliability you should expect from this.
Bought the MP 380 EZ for my wife for Christmas 18. This has now become her favorite pistol!!!
I've put about 500 rounds through mine from a wide variety of brands. Not a single malfunction. Gun is easy to use and easy to take down for cleaning. Light weight but still very manageable recoil. It's the perfect weapon for concealing for people that have problems with their grip and have a hard time racking other weapons.
Go to the range and rent a demo. You'll end up buying it.
I purchased this jewel because I do target shooting, and I am no longer physically able to rack my SR-9. I have fired 50 rounds in it so far, and I am super pleased. It is easy to rack, easy to load, easy to disassemble and assemble, easy to clean and easy to fall in love with. It is a real charmer. Love it!
I picked this up about a month ago after looking all around for a gun that my wife was comfortable with and still small enough to conceal. She has a .22 that is great, but has a tendency to not fully eject from time to time as well as virtually no stopping power.
The .380 is a great compromise. Not enough to scare someone who is still getting comfortable but powerful enough to get the job done. The EZ makes racking it a breeze for her as well. Great product.
Christmas gift from my son. I have problems racking the shield but not this pistol, I was able to try it at one of the ranges and fell in love with it!
I fired around 70 rounds today. Very easy to load magazine and rack. Not a lot of recoil. I own a Glock 380. Less recoil with the Smith. Be aware that the are two different size barrels, I prefer the short on for carrying. Great piece. You will not regret getting one.
I bought this gun a week ago. Couldn't wait to shoot it. I have to say it is all that they have said about it. It is a very good gun to shoot for anyone. I love how easy it is to rack. It handles very easy. The magazine is so easy to load . It does have a bit of a kick to it. I will be shooting this one a lot.
